The BK/SFE-14 is a low voltage miniature fuse with an axial lead composed of nickel-plated copper. The BK/SFE-14 is designed to provide protection for low voltage, current-limiting circuits. It is suitable for a variety of applications, such as DC equipment.
The primary function of the BK/SFE-14 is to interrupt the current flow in a circuit when the current reaches an excessive level. This T-shaped bimetal strip is then fastened together and secured to the side bracket of the fuse housing. When a specified current level is exceeded, the two metal strips contact and transfer heat to each other. This causes the fuse strip to bow more and break the circuit connection, thus protecting the device that has been connected to the circuit.
The BK/SFE-14 offers both overload and short circuit protection. The former is achieved by setting the pre-stress on the bimetal strip while the latter is achieved by setting the width of the fuse link. The width of the fuse link determines the level of current flow required to cause the strip to bow and break the circuit connection.
When the fuse experiences a current overload event, the fuse link melts and the two strands of the bimetal strip separate, thus breaking the circuit connection and preventing further damage to the connected device. After the event, the BK/SFE-14 can be reset and reused.
