BOB-14002 Application Field and Working Principle

The BOB-14002 evaluation board and kit from Xilinx is used for evaluating many functions and features on the Virtex-4 FX-12 FX-12D FPGA. The FPGA family provides users with a choice of 12 multipliers and a wide range of features including dual-port off-chip memory, SERDES blocks, high-performance PowerPC processors, encoders, DACs, PLLs, and a variety of other features. The evaluation board assists users in making the best use of the Virtex-4 family’s features and also provides a platform to gain a greater understanding of their application power.The board features two banks of 8 30-pin headers for connecting expansion boards, four banks of 8-pin female headers for connecting peripherals, and a bank of 4 30-pin female headers. The board includes the following on-board features: five LEDs, two DIP switches, two LEDs, one reset, an 8-pin MIC jack, and an 8-pin SUM jack. The board also has a power supply input, a USB connector, a VGA connector, and a power on/off switch.The FPGA device mounted on the evaluation board is configured based on the type of user-selected board configuration. The Virtex-4 family supports software programmable logic and programmable I/Os for various uses. The user can program the FPGA for implementing various high-speed functions such as arithmetic operations, controller functions, I/O processing, communications, data switching, data regulation, video processing, and digital signal processing.The evaluation board is controlled via an embedded processor, which enables users to easily develop their own applications. The evaluation board supports the Xilinx PowerPC Evaluation Kit, which supports easy software development and debugging. The processor also has an integrated dual-port RAM, which provides ample on-board communications and data transfer capability. The evaluation board also supports many peripheral devices, including Ethernet, USB, and VGA.The Virtex-4 family has many advantages over other FPGA families, such as high speed performance, low power consumption, and advanced features. The evaluation board and kit enable users to evaluate the device’s features and capabilities, develop their own applications, and get familiar with the Virtex-4 family’s features and capabilities. The evaluation board and kit are an excellent starting point for users to test their application ideas and design their own custom boards.
