Structure

The BP/MB-20 circuit breaker is composed of a molded case and trip unit. The trip unit is a two-piece assembly that is composed of a vacuum bottle and bimetallic elements. The vacuum bottle is a sealed unit that contains a pressurized mixture of inert gases that serves to trip the circuit breaker in the event of an overcurrent or short circuit condition.

Working Principle

The BP/MB-20 circuit breaker works by utilizing the bimetallic elements and the vacuum bottle. As the temperature continues to increase, the bimetallic elements expand, and the pressure inside the vacuum bottle begins to increase. When a preset threshold is reached, the pressure inside the bottle forces a plunger to push the circuit breaker contacts into the open position, thus interrupting the current flow. The BP/MB-20 circuit breaker is designed to respond quickly to overcurrent and short circuit conditions. The circuit breaker will begin tripping at a current of 2.5 times the rated current of the circuit breaker; this allows the circuit breaker to respond quickly and protect the system from any further damage. The BP/MB-20 circuit breaker also has a thermal-magnetic trip unit, which allows for remote resetting of the trip unit in the event of an overload.
