The BQ2023EVM-001 is a battery gas gauge and monitoring evaluation board kit. It provides an ideal platform for advanced evaluation and development of the BQ2023/23A/24/24A series precision battery gas gauge devices and integrating a variety of system level features. It is designed to support 1 Li-ion/Li-Polymer battery pack with up to 3 cells in series connection. Working Principle
The working principle of the BQ2023EVM-001 battery gas gauge/monitoring evaluation board is based on the BQ2023/23A/24/24A battery gas gauge ASICs. The BQ2023EVM-001 board includes two components: the battery measurement board (BMB) and the signal processing board (SPB). The SPB captures signals from the BMB and communicates them to a host system and the BMB senses the parameters of the system battery and outputs them to the SPB via digital logic signals.
The purpose of the BMB is to transduce the battery parameters such as temperature, voltage, charge current and so on. To accomplish this, the BMB consists of signal conditioning circuitry, analog to digital converters and a filter network. The input signals such as the temperature, voltage and current are first conditioned using resistor divider network, amplified and filtered before they are digitized using an A/D converter and outputted to the SPB.
The output of the BMB that is sent to the SPB is in a digital form, which is then demodulated and decoded using the integrated microcontroller and firmware. The decoded signals are presented as 16-bit digital register values readable through the I2C interface. The interface delegates read/write and master/slave control functions and also supports 100KHz and 400KHz data rates.
The designed system also supports alert output signals which are triggered when configured values for the battery parameters are exceeded. The BQ2023EVM-001 board also features communication through the I2C and SMBus. The AIE(also known as Efficient Pulse charging mode) provides over-current protection while extending battery life and improving charge efficiency.
