PMIC - Battery Management, is the practice of managing a battery’s operation, charging, discharging and overall behavior as part of a larger electronic system. Such systems are essential for today’s portable, wireless and energy harvesting electronics. The BQ296113DSGR is a Application Specific Integrated Circuit (ASIC)-based PMIC focused on the Battery Management System of the higher power portable and wireless systems. In systems where the battery is the primary power source, it is highly desired to be able to provide a consistent and reliable power source to the system at all times. To do so, the battery must be charged and discharged safely and efficiently. The BQ296113DSGR is designed to handle the most critical aspects of this management profile, containing multiple modules including a Battery Fuel-Gauge, Gas-Gauge state machine and power path controller. The BQ296113DSGR has two operational modes. It can be used in either a standalone or data-transfer mode. In standalone mode, the BQ296113DSGR controls its own internal fuel-gauge, gas-gauge state machine and power-path controller. In data-transfer mode, the BQ296113DSGR can interface with other digital components or modules to exchange data concerning the battery\'s energy states, such as voltage and current capacities. The BQ296113DSGR has a 8-LED indicator array, which is programmable to allow the user to ascertain the battery\'s current state and normal operation of the device. Additionally, the device contains an additional ECO mode, which reduces the device’s power consumption. This mode is usually activated when the battery’s charge level is low or when the user needs a longer standby time. The BQ296113DSGR also contains a fully integrated Charge Path, which is ideal for managing multi-cell batteries. The Charge Path allows seamless handling of the battery\'s charging cycle, during which the device monitors the safety and balance of the battery\'s cells and controls charging currents, as well as temperature. In many cases, this is software controlled – allowing the user to customize the charging and discharging profiles for each application. The BQ296113DSGR also contains a variety of failsafe functions to ensure the safety of the device and the battery. Among them are automatic under-voltage, over-voltage and short-circuit protection, with soft-start and pre-charge protection features. The BQ296113DSGR also features various safety features, including an over-current, over-temperature and over-voltage protection, as well as a status flag to notify the user whenever a fault has been detected. The BQ296113DSGR is a versatile, custom-tailorable and powerful PMIC, designed for maximum efficiency, reliability and ease-of-use.
