Common mode chokes (CMCs) are a type of electrical filter commonly used in electronic application circuits to suppress noise and improve signal quality. They are designed to minimize the flow of common-mode currents through a device by restricting electromagnetic interference (EMI). Working Principle:

The CAX-0.4-100 works on the principle of inductive and capacitive reactance to interdict common-mode noise, that is, noise conducted through a shared connection between transmitting and receiving circuits. It consists of two or more coils or windings, each with a preferred direction of current, which are wound magnetically coupled together. These coupled windings form a dual-layer configuration, one for differential-mode and the other for common-mode filtering.

The CAX-0.4-100 has two kinds of core materials; ferrites and high-frequency iron powder cores. When the current passes through one winding, a magnetic field is generated in the ferrite material. The magnetic field of one winding affects the other winding and generates a voltage/current, inducing a counteracting current which cancels out any common-mode currents. This counteracting current causes a voltage drop across the series inductor, leading to a reduction of common-mode current to a minimum.

In addition, the CAX-0.4-100 also utilizes capacitive elements to reduce common-mode noise from capacitive coupling between transverse channels. The capacitive elements intersects the current in different directions, resulting in a voltage drop across the choke. This voltage drop is what is called the common-mode voltage. It helps to further reduce the amount of common-mode current, thus reducing the amount of noise in the circuitry.

The CAX-0.4-100 is a useful addition to many application fields due to its integrated solution for suppressing common-mode noise. It can be an effective, low-cost means of minimizing the effects of EMI from transversal channels. In addition, its dual core technology allows for inductive and capacitive filtering in a single unit, thus making it a more effective solution.
