CDA-W Application Field and Working Principle
CDA-W type fuse is an air switch, which is mainly used for voltage-sensitive protection applications. That means this type of fuse can work at mains voltage of 380V or below. It has a good ability to protect against infrequent but severe short-term overloads.
Usage Areas
It is normally used in electrical circuits with distribution systems and line protection. CDA-W type fuses are very frequently applied to protect single-phase and three-phase motors from damage due to overloads, short circuits, and under voltage. Such protection may be required for idling motors suitable for the motor load requirements. The protection range lies between 10A and 32A, respectively.
Working Principle
The CDA-W type fuse applies semiconductor protection. It comprises of a selected number of metal particles (Semi-conductors), which are placed in an isolating medium, usually resin or a hardening resin. The metal particles have a certain resistance value determined by the manufacturing process. Emergent overloads and short-circuits lead into an increase of the current, which creates a sudden rise in temperature inside the air switch. When the temperature reaches a certain threshold level, the metal particles are liquefied and the contact between the two sides of the fuse is broken. This action activates a new contact, interrupting the circuit and protecting it from further damage.
CDA-W type fuse is equipped with a spring-mounted draw-out device suitable for quick and easy testing and resetting. This type of fuse is very useful when trying to reduce downtime and improve startup times.
