Working Principle

CE3391-40.000 employs a voltage-controlled crystal oscillator (VCXO) which makes use of temperature compensation to keep its output frequency stable. The medium between the plates of the crystal inside the oscillator is deformed by the electric field produced by the change in voltage, thus causing the frequency to change in the same way as when a tuning fork is sounded by applying a frequency to it. The vibrating crystal frequency can be controlled by varying the voltage to the oscillator. This is how the oscillator is able to provide a stable output frequency (with temperature compensated oscillator) regardless of outside temperatures.
