The CGL-2 application field and working principle are related to specialty fuses. Specialty fuses, also known as high speed fuses, are designed for protection in high speed switching applications, primarily for power electronics. As traditional fuses are incapable of providing fast enough protection for this type of circuits, specialty fuses are the more suitable choice. CGL-2 is a commonly used type of specialty fused.

The CGL-2 fuses are different than many other types of fuses due to their ability to react quickly and provide effective protection against sustained high currents. They are able to respond to these fast increases in current, preventing further damage to the circuit. Additionally, a CGL-2 fuse will usually open at a current level that is normally higher then traditional fast-acting fuses.

The way a CGL-2 fuse works is through a process called time-delay reaction. This works by using a plunger that is located within the body of the fuse. The plunger has a metal alloy coating, which provides a more predictable timing capability. When there is a sudden increase in current, the metal alloy will heat up and expand, applying pressure to the plunger. If the current continues, the plunger will continue to expand until it breaks, resulting in an open circuit.

In addition to responding to sudden surges in current, the CGL-2 fuse also provides protection against sustained high currents. This is accomplished through a combination of heat dissipation from the metal alloy coating, and the plunger, which reacts to the current and absorbs the thermal energy. This helps to prevent damage to the electrical circuits. It also provides a level of redundancy, which is important in applications where the possibility of multiple current sources is present.

The CGL-2 fuse is typically used for protection of power converters, energy transfer and storage systems, motor drives, and other high-power applications. The most common applications are in the automotive, industrial control, and aeronautical industry.

Due to its unique characteristics, the CGL-2 fuse is ideal for providing protection and redundancy in high-power applications. Its time-delay reaction ensures that it can respond quickly to sudden increases in current, preventing further damage to the circuits. Additionally, its ability to dissipate heat and absorb thermal energy provides protection against sustained high currents. This makes CGL-2 specialty fuses ideal for use in demanding, high-power applications.
