Common mode chokes (CMCs) are widely used for many types of noise cancellation and voltage noise suppression. A CMC is an electrical component which functions by blocking the flow of common mode current, while passing the desired signal or differential mode current. Currents in the common mode are unrestricted, so CMCs form an important part of many electronic systems.

A well designed CMC can reduce noise in the system, including EMI noise in the power line and/or system. CMCs are mainly used to reduce coupling of adjacent cables and decouple power line disturbances through a transformer like action. CMCs are also used in filter applications for differential-mode signal filtration, as well as a pass-through for differential mode signals.

The CMC-08 is a common mode choke which is a three-winding, high frequency inductor. The CMC-08 has a triple core shield structure featuring copper and ferrite, allowing for better electro-magnetic separation and a wide range of inductance values. It supports a frequency range from 1MHz to 1GHz, which makes it ideal for use in many applications such as automotive, telecommunications and video equipment.

The working principle of the CMC-08 is simple: it causes a differential voltage across its windings so, in turn, it causes a counter-EMF or back EMF in the windings. The counter-EMF is proportional to the amplitude of the input voltage and the rate of change of the input current. The induced voltage at the opposite side of the CMC-08 can be used as noise suppression or to filter unwanted high frequency signals. The CMC-08 is also capable of handling high current applications up to 20A with a maximum peak current of 83A.

When the CMC-08 is used as a filter, it blocks the high frequency signals while allowing the desired differential signals to pass. The three windings of the CMC-08 are wound in such a way that the common mode current flow is reduced and only the differential mode signals are allowed to pass through. This is why the CMC-08 is able to effectively reduce common mode interference and significantly reduce noise levels in the system.

The CMC-08 is also capable of handling high voltage applications with a maximum differential voltage of 18Vrms or 25V peak.

The CMC-08 can be used for a variety of applications involving common mode suppression and differential-mode signal filtration. It can also be used in automotive, telecommunications and video equipment which require high noise suppression and low losses. The CMC-08 is also suitable for applications such as transceivers and modems where common mode current flow needs to be reduced.

In summary, the CMC-08 is a three-winding, high frequency inductor with a triple core shield structure featuring copper and ferrite. It has a wide range of inductance values, hence can be used to reduce noise in the system, including EMI noise in the power line and/or system. It is capable of handling high current applications up to 20A and it can also be used for high voltage applications with a maximum differential voltage of 18Vrms or 25V peak. The CMC-08 can also be used for a variety of applications involving common mode suppression and differential-mode signal filtration.
