PTC Resettable Fuses are a type of electrical component classified as a polymeric positive temperature coefficient (PPTC). Commonly used in the electronics industry, PTC Resettable Fuses are typically used when circuits need to be protected from short-circuiting and/or overcharging. The CMF-RLC50-0 is an example of a PTC Resettable Fuse.

The CMF-RLC50-0 is designed for over-current protection with low voltage applications. It is UL-certified and complies with all RoHS standards. It is rated for up to 10A and 50V DC and has a very quick trip time of 8 milliseconds. The fuse also has a high interrupt rating of up to 100A.

The CMF-RLC50-0 utilizes a polymer-based PTC element which has a temperature-dependent resistance. At normal operating temperatures, the PTC element has a low resistance, allowing normal current to flow through the circuit. When an over-current condition occurs, the PTC element’s resistance begins to increase, eventually causing the circuit to open and break the current flow. This prevents damage to the circuit from high currents.

The CMF-RLC50-0 can reset itself after the over-current condition has cleared. This is accomplished by removing the current and allowing the PTC element’s temperature to drop. As the temperature decreases, the PTC element’s resistance decreases, allowing the circuit to close and start conducting again. This self-resetting feature is the main advantage of using a PTC Resettable Fuse over a conventional fuse.

The CMF-RLC50-0 is ideal for use in a variety of applications, including medical instrumentation, automotive, industrial, and consumer electronics. It is particularly useful for high-current applications such as DC power supplies and motor drives, as well as other sensitive electronics.
