During the application of an electrical field, electrons accumulate on one plate while the other plate accumulates holes. As this charge builds up, an electric potential arises. This potential is equal to the product of charge and capacitance.
When the electric field is removed, one plate stores electrons, while the other stores holes. This results in an inverted image of the charge between the plates. This charge imbalance corresponds to a reverse electric field that opposes the removal of charge and tries to push it back on the plate. The electric field decays slowly to zero over time, and any residual charge slowly dissipates, thus leaving the two plates with equal and opposite charges which act to balance each other out, restoring the capacitor to its original state.
The CMR03E200DOAM capacitor is also equipped with demagnetization capabilities and has self-healing capabilities, meaning that if the capacitor is damaged due to an external force, such as a surge, it is able to restore itself to its original state. This is achieved by passing a current through the capacitor. This reverses the current flow and by doing so, also reverses the electrostatic charge, thereby clearing out any accumulated charge or charge imbalance.
