Common Mode Chokes (CMCs) are components used to suppress common mode noise. The CMT-8116 is a type of CMC designed to provide wide frequency noise suppression with high common mode impedance characteristics. It can be used in many different applications, from low frequency differential-mode noise suppression to high frequency common mode noise suppression.

The CMT-8116 is a two-winding, surface mount device that provides wide frequency noise suppression with high common mode impedance characteristics. It is typically used when board space is limited or for applications that require more convoluted routing of signal and power traces. The device features an operating temperature range of -55 °C to 125 °C, a standard shielding material, and a wide frequency response range. The CMT-8116 features an optimized ferrite core material that provides high common-mode impedance characteristics without increasing the device’s size. The device supports up to three counter-wound windings, achieving common mode impedance levels up to 50 ohms across the frequency range of 100 Hz to 1.0 MHz. The CMT-8116 is available in three sizes: 9 mm, 10 mm, and 12 mm.

The working principle behind the CMT-8116 is based on Faraday\'s Law of Electromagnetic induction. As a current flows through the windings of the CMC, it creates a magnetic field. Since there is a relative motion between the windings of the CMC and the current created, this magnetic field generates a voltage in the windings. This voltage generated by the CMC is used to suppress common mode noise. In order to ensure higher common mode impedance levels, the CMC is designed to maximize the magnetic flux and minimize eddy current losses in the windings.
