Programmable Oscillators: CPPLC4-HT5PT Application Field and Working Principle

Continuous and Pulse Designable Programmable Local Oscillator (CPPLC4-HT5PT) is a programmable oscillator that can be implemented for both continuous sinusoidal signal generation and pulses (square or rectangular) production. It is based on Voltage Controlled Oscillator (VCO) and Frequency Synthesis Technology. This oscillator can be used in a wide range of applications such as frequency-hopping radios, or communication, radar or microwave systems.

This type of oscillator consists of two main building blocks. The first block is the VCO and the second block is the synthesizer. The VCO is made up of two LC resonators. One LC resonator is connected to the control voltage and the other is connected to the output. The synthesizer works with the Phase Locked Loop (PLL) to convert the output signal from the VCO through a process of frequency mixing and conversion.

The main application field of CPPLC4-HT5PT oscillator is in radio communication, radar and microwave systems. This type of oscillator can be used to produce continuous sinusoidal signal and also for pulse (square or rectangular) generation. It has many advantages such as a wide operating frequency range from 6 to 20GHz; fast switching time (1 microsecond); high stability, that is being able to retain the set frequency over time; and low jitter and high power stability.

With regards to the working principle of CPPLC4-HT5PT oscillator, it is based on VCO and Frequency Synthesis Technology. In the VCO, the output is related to the control voltage by an equation. The control voltage can be generated by the synthesizer by frequency mixing, filtering and conversion. The synthesizer is made of a PLL where the output of the PLL is fed back to the input. This is done to ensure that the generated frequency is well within the frequency range of the oscillator. The synthesizer also has other components such as frequency dividers, programmable shifters, mixers and frequency doublers.

The CPPLC4-HT5PT oscillator can be used for both continuous sinusoidal signal generation and pulse generation. For continuous sinusoidal signal generation, the output of the VCO is passed through the synthesizer. The frequency of the output of the synthesizer is then determined by the frequency dividers, mixers and frequency doublers in the synthesizer. The frequency of the output can be changed by changing the frequency dividers, mixers and frequency doublers in the synthesizer. For pulse generation, the output of the VCO is also passed through the synthesizer. The frequency of the output of the synthesizer is then determined by the programmable shifters in the synthesizer.
