Oscillators are electronic devices used to measure, calculate, and otherwise produce or detect alternating electric current or waveforms. An oscillator converts the applied energy into an oscillating waveform, usually in either a sine or cosine wave form. Oscillators can operate on direct current or alternating current. CWX813-007.3728M Application Field and Working Principle

The CWX813-007.3728M is a precision frequency reference source tailored for use on 4-Layer Multilayer Hybrid, as well as, 18-Layer Multilayer Hybrid circuits. It is mounted in a hermetically sealed package and can be used with various frequencies to provide required output voltages over a wide temperature range. Beyond different frequency implementations, the versatility of the CWX813-007.3728M is extended by the implementation of internal JTAG, flush timers, measurement devices and a precision low noise oscillator, if required.

The CWX813-007.3728M oscillator has a minimum of a +100dB/Hz in-band noise headroom and no externally adjustable trim or preset components, allowing it to be stable without frequency adjustment or use of external temperature compensation. Its high stability stems from a small form factor, low frequency control, low leakage and a low temperature coefficient, exceeding the mechanical stability of most mechanical resonators.

At the heart of the oscillator is a temperature-compensated CMS oscillator circuit that works with a synchronous binary feedback system. This input is then converted into a pulse-width modulation signal that is represented digitally. The modulation signal is then compared to an externally adjusted reference signal, which is the direct-voltage feedback from the output portion, providing a wide range of in-phase and out-of-phase operation. This is accomplished by the dual-mode power amplifier, which provides constant waveform emission during periods of supply voltage fluctuation.

The extreme accuracy that is possible with the CWX813-007.3728M provides accurate timing, delay equalization, and the ability to match multiple ASICs with the same frequency. This frequency accuracy is maintained by the use of the proprietary ultra-low temperature coefficient, which utilizes an active temperature compensation technique. This technique avoids the use of external adjustment components and relies on an internal temperature sensor for precise temperature compensation.

The output voltage of the CWX813-007.3728M is variable and is controlled either by adjusting the current or voltage source or by varying the control voltage. This allows it to be used as an oscillator for use in personal communications, cellular radios, and microwave satellites. It can also be used as a reference oscillator in VLSI and sensor applications. The output range is adjustable to match specific requirements.

The CWX813-007.3728M oscillator provides exceptional stability, low noise, fast response time and a wide range of operating temperature.
