Optical sensors detect optical properties of an object or environment. Photoelectric optical sensors employ an emitter, which emits either visible or IR light, and a detector which receives it. Its application field can be seen in many industrial sectors such as in industrial automation, transportation, instrumentation, military and communication. CY-122VB-P is an example of a photoelectric optical sensor.

CY-122VB-P has two major parts, a receiver and an emitter. In terms of the receiver, it has polarized glass dome lens that can effectively visible the red and yellow LED light. The emitter includes an LED which can emit visible red and yellow light with two pins left and right of the lens for power connection. The optics design allows the device to detect in reflected, retro-reflective, through-beam and opposed modes. Furthermore, it provides adjustment functions for ambient light immunity, light/dark control, delay time setting and output behaviors for different applications.

In many instances, detection requires both an emitter and a detector to work in tandem. Emitters generate signal which is detected by the receiver, and the receiver then provides output signals for disposal or further processing. An example of this working principle is in retroreflective mode. In retroreflective mode, the CY-122VB-P’s emitter will emit light which is then reflected back and concentrate on the receiver, which is typically a photo diode, by using its polarized lens. Whenever the object passes in front of the receiver, the sensor would detect this and will provide an appropriate signal as its output. The input signal can then be further processed or trigger a further action.

In terms of operating conditions, CY-122VB-P has tolerable operating temperature range of 0~+55℃ and storage temperature range of -25~+65℃. The device is waterproof and vibration proof. It is fabricated in a high-impact, thermally conductive ABS housing and it is also UL approved.
