CY8CMBR3108-LQXIT is an independently configurable capacitive touch sensing controller family of PSoC 4 system-on-chip (SoC) devices. It provides a capacitive touch-sensing solution with customizable hardware and I/O capability and a hardware-based sensing engine. This device is ideal for highly-integrated capacitive touch sensing solutions, providing a simple, straightforward migration between different contact sensing algorithms.
CY8CMBR3108-LQXIT application field is focused on controlling general purpose input/output (GPIO) pins in the form of capacitive touch buttons and sliders. With its extremely low power consumption, it is ideal for battery powered applications. Additionally, it can be used in other applications such as air-gap and waterproofing detection, as well as surface proximity sensing.
The CY8CMBR3108-LQXIT control IC uses mutual capacitive sensing technology to detect a change in the electrostatic environment around a capacitive button or sensor. It operates by measuring the capacitance associated with the presence of a finger on a touch button or slider. The sensing channels are made up of sensor pads, which are connected to a host controller. The host controller determines whether the pads sense touch or not, and decides the output associated with it.
Moreover, CY8CMBR3108-LQXIT’s sensing engine works in two modes, the mutual capacitive sensing mode and the self capacitive sensing mode. In mutual capacitive sensing, the host controller transmits an excitation signal to one set of sensor pads and detects the resulting signal which is affected by the presence of a finger. In self capacitive sensing mode, the sensing engine measures the difference in capacitance between two pads as an indicator of finger presence.
The system clock or reference signal is generated by an on-chip phase-locked loop (PLL). The phase-locked loop is composed of the dedicated hardware blocks, including the oscillator clock, DAC and ADC, which are used to adjust the oscillation signal to achieve a predetermined accuracy. The oscillator clock is used to create the signal for the phase-locked loop (PLL), which provides a reference signal for the sense signal and the control signal. The sense signal is detected by the sensing channels, and the comparison result is output from the controller. Control signal is the signal that is sent to the control blocks for control purpose.
Additionally, the features of CY8CMBR3108-LQXIT also include auto-calibration, waterproofing and air-gap sensing, low standby current, debounce counter and adjustable resolution. The auto-calibration feature adjusts the reference voltage according to the environment. The waterproofing and air-gap sensing functions enable the device to detect the presence of a finger on the touch sensor even if it is covered with water or air-gap material. The adjustable resolution enables users to adjust detection sensitivity according to their needs, while the low standby current ensures ultra-low-power applications. Last but not least, the debounce counter adjusts the debouncing time of the touch event.
