1. Describe

The CY8CMBR3116-LQXIT CapSense® Express™ controller enables an advanced yet easy-to-implement capacitive touch-sensing user interface solution. This register-configurable family supports up to 16 capacitive sensing inputs without time-consuming firmware development. These controllers are ideal for implementing capacitive buttons, sliders and proximity sensing solutions with minimal development cycle time. The CY8CMBR3116-LQXIT family features an advanced analog sensing channel and capacitive Sigma Delta PLUS (CSD PLUS) sensing algorithm that provides greater than 100:1 signal-to-noise ratio (SNR), ensuring touch accuracy even in extremely noisy environments. These controllers use Cypress's SmartSense™ auto-tuning algorithms to compensate for manufacturing variations and dynamically monitor and maintain optimal sensor performance under all environmental conditions. Additionally, SmartSense auto-tuning speeds time-to-market by eliminating time-consuming manual tuning during development and production ramp-up. Advanced features such as LED brightness control, proximity sensing and system diagnostics save development time. These controllers enable a robust waterproof design by eliminating false touches caused by fog, droplets or running water. The CY8CMBR3116-LQXIT controller is available in a variety of small, industry-standard packages. The ecosystem of the CY8CMBR3116-LQXIT family includes development tools that support rapid user interface design. For example, the EZ-Click Customizer tool is a simple graphical user interface software for configuring device functionality via the I2C interface. The tool also supports CapSense data viewing to monitor system performance and support verification and debugging. Another tool design toolbox simplifies board layout by providing design guidelines and layout recommendations to optimize sensor size, trace length, and parasitic capacitance.

5. Proximity sensor

    1. The CY8CMBR3116-LQXIT series supports up to two distance sensors with a maximum detection range of 30 cm. 

    2. Wake-on-proximity wakes the device from a low-power state to active mode when a proximity event occurs.

    3. The device also features a drive shield to enhance proximity sensing range in the presence of metallic objects.

    4. The device supports proximity sensors with a CP range of 8 pF to 45 pF.

6. Fluid resistance

The CY8CMBR3116-LQXIT series offers a waterproof design to avoid accidental exposure to water droplets, moisture, mist, steam, and even wet hands due to wet conditions such as water. This CapSense controller locks the user interface in firmware to prevent touch input in water. The CY8CMBR3116-LQXIT series tolerates liquids such as water, ketchup, oil, and blood. The shield electrode is enabled via register map, using EZ-Click, to prevent false touches in wet conditions, and the shield electrode and guard sensor are enabled to prevent false touches in flowing water conditions. The shield electrode and guard sensor each consume one port pin controller in CapSense.

7. Register Configurability

The CY8CMBR3116-LQXIT registers are configurable through the I2C interface. Device functionality can be enabled, disabled or modified by writing appropriate values to the I2C configurable register map. This register map also provides various status outputs to indicate touch/read
