DCM3623EA5N13B4T00 is a multi-topology high power, off-line DC/DC and AC/DC evaluation board that gives the flexibility to develop high-performance switched-mode power supply designs and prototypes. Developed by TDK-Lambda Corporation, this evaluation board is AC or DC input, 69V – 408V output capable, and provides comprehensive control and protection features. The board facilitates various circuit topologies such as buck, boost, forward, flyback, half-bridge, and full-bridge modes. It is suitable for many industrial, consumer and medical applications. Using a high performance buck-derivative isolated Synchronous Rectifier (SR) regulator, this board offers up to 97% efficiency at full power.

When developing a DC/DC converter, the designer needs to consider various parameters such as frequency, load and thermal characteristics, efficiency, and cooling requirements. To generate a high-frequency switching waveform, designers often select a Pulse-Width Modulation (PWM) integrated circuit (IC). This board uses a dedicated PWM IC requiring only a few external components for control. The SMPS control circuit allows designers to set the power supply’s operating parameters. To reduce the design overhead, this board also features an internal temperature sensor to protect the board against high temperatures.

Working Principle:

The DCM3623EA5N13B4T00 evaluation board follows the traditional buck topology. It uses a buck-derivative, isolated synchronous rectifier (SR) to provide better performance and higher efficiency than conventional positive and negative rectification based on a transformer with a single secondary winding. This board’s SR regulator has a switching frequency of 200kHz. The internal SMPS controller of the board continuously monitors voltage, current and temperature. The board also contains an output voltage sensing circuit that measures the output voltage and provides a control signal for the PWM IC.

The board uses MOSFETs and diodes that are specifically designed for the board’s operating conditions. The MOSFETs’ operating parameters, such as the switching time, current limit, and thermal shutdown, are programmed using the internal SMPS controller. In addition, to provide a high level of protection, the board also includes overvoltage, undervoltage and overtemperature protection.
