DEV-09815, orTexas InstrumentsWiLink™ 8 Expansion Board, is an evaluation board that is categorized as an Expansion Board, Daughter Card. It provides developers with an expandable platform to interface with and evaluate Texas InstrumentsWiLink™ 8convergence modules. In combination with the DEV-09813 base board, which was designed specifically for the WiLink™ 8 module, the DEV-09815 expansion board allows developers to quickly evaluate wireless performance.

The DEV-09815 expansion board consists of many important components. To begin, the board includes a MEMSMicroelectromechanical systems(MEMS) accelerometer and gyroscope, used to measure angular rate, acceleration, and orientation. Additionally, an integrated satellite receiver module, theSiGe SE4120, is used for updating time, date, and position data automatically. For multimedia applications, a built-in camera and headset module are also provided.

The expansion board also includes an array of other features. These include a low-power full-function antenna port, on-board 512 Mbits ofStorage, two-channel audio interface with microphone input and speaker output, low-power FLU Display interface, and an integrated USB2.0 host. In addition, the board supports USB-OTG, allows for direct connection to an external USB device, and provides developers with a low cost interface to evaluate Zigbee/Thread RF performance.

The WI-FI and Bluetooth®4.0 features provided by this expansion board allow developers to design wireless multimedia applications such as Wi-Fi phone, Wi-Fi monitor, and Wi-Fi muti-media applications. The on-board dual-band 802.11b/g/n radio interface enables Wi-Fi and Bluetooth®4.0 coexistence, allowing for an extended connection range of up to 45 meters. The DEV-09815 also supports up to 8 simultaneous cellular and Wi-Fi roles simultaneously, providing developers with a robust solution for quick system evaluation.

The DEV-09815 expansion board utilizes Texas Instruments MIMOSA™ advanced transmission technology, which supports the highest quality audio/video streaming for HD applications. It is also designed to optimize power consumption, allowing for improved system control, increased battery efficiency, and extended battery life. The WiLink 8 includes an integrated voltage regulator, enabling developers to power any external device from the expansion board, making it easy to create complete battery-powered systems.

The DEV-09815 Expansion board includes an Integrated Development Environment (IDE). The IDE provides a set of tools and libraries that allow developers to quickly integrate WiLink features into their designs. The IDE includes full integration with TI’s Code Composer Studio™, so developers can easily configure, debug, and program their devices. This makes it possible for them to take advantage of the latest WiLink features without extensive engineering remapping.

The DEV-09815 Expansion Board is based on the Texas Instruments WiLink 8 chipset. The WiLink 8 chipset is an ideal platform for low power multimedia applications, as it integrates multiple wireless technologies into a small form factor, offering high throughput, low power usage, and support for multiple cellular and Wi-Fi protocols.
