Evaluation Boards - Expansion Boards, Daughter Cards is a type of board which extends the functionality of the basic board it is connected to. The DEV-13684 is a versatile expansion board that adds lots of both analog and digital inputs and outputs to a base or master board.

The DEV-13684 expansion board has a wide variety of applications due to its convenience. Its analog inputs can be used for system readings such as from sensors, and its digital inputs can be used to provide logic control to the master board. Its outputs, analog and digital, allow for a controlled environment to influence the system like by providing analog power signals and digital control signals. With its versatility, the DEV-13684 may be used for many systems. Examples of these systems include industrial controllers to robotic systems.

The DEV-13684 board features both analog and digital sections which are supported by controllers. On the input side, each analog input can be read from a maximum of 16-bit resolution. Digital inputs consist of two 8-bit parallel ports for logic control. Furthermore, the board is equipped with 8-bit output parallel ports and two 16-bit DAC outputs.

The DEV-13684 board works in conjunction with a master board interconnected through the I2C interface. Data is sent over the I2C bus in request and reply transactions. The master board initiates the transaction and sends requests to the board. The board then gathers the requested data and sends back a reply with the data. This process is used for both the analog and digital inputs and outputs of the board.

For analog inputs, the board first samples the analog inputs to get the exact data from the sensor. This data is then sent back to the master board once a request is made. For output, the board takes binary data from the master board and sends it to the DACs.

The DEV-13684 uses an internal clock to provide timing of samples and conversions. The data also utilizes a Window Watchdog Timer (WWDT) to identify an expired period of time upon which the board resets or generates an interrupt. The board features over-voltage and over-current protection features also to protect the system from overloading the peripheral devices connected to it like motors.

In summary, the DEV-13684 provides a variety of features which offers total control to end users. Its wide array of analog and digital inputs and outputs allow users to rapidly design systems with many features. It is an ideal expansion board to connect to I2C based systems due to its convenient I2C communication protocol.
