Diodes - Bridge Rectifiers

The DF15005S-G is a four terminal device which is used as a bridge rectifier, combining four diodes into a single package. This type of device has multiple uses, including rectifying AC voltages to DC voltage. The device is widely used in AC/DC power supplies, UPS systems, battery charger and other types of power conversion systems. Input voltage is applied to two opposite terminals of the bridge rectifier while the two other terminals are connected to a common point, such as the ground. When an alternating current (AC) voltage is applied across the bridge rectifier, it rectifies the input AC voltage, producing an output DC voltage which is proportional to the average value of the input AC voltage. As noted earlier, two of the four diodes in the bridge rectifier only conduct at any one time, which allows current to flow through the bridge rectifier during both the positive and negative half-cycles of the input AC voltage. Thus, the bridge rectifier allows unidirectional current flow and produces a DC voltage with an AC ripple. The bridge rectifier is also known as an AC to DC converter as it converts AC voltage across the input terminals to DC voltage across the output terminals.

The DF15005S-G has a number of advantages over other types of rectifiers such as a full-wave center tap rectifier. First, the bridge rectifier does not require a center tap connection, resulting in a simpler circuit.
