The DK-DEV-4SGX230N Evaluation Board is designed for the purpose of rapid prototyping of designs targeted at Altera\'s FPGA family: Stratix ® IV GX. It is part of Altera\'s Quartus II design suite and allows the user to quickly evaluate the performance of their FPGA designs.

The DK-DEV-4SGX230N Evaluation Board features four Stratix IV GX FPGAs on an 8-lanes PCI Express backplane. The backplane comprises eight identical strands of FPGA capable of independently selecting from four GX230N devices or two GX132N devices. Each FPGA is uniquely addressable and can support partial reconfiguration. The backplane supports standard protocols: PCI Express v1.0, 2.0, 3.0; Infiniband v1.0, 2.0; 10-Gigabit Ethernet v1.0, 2.0; and FireWire TX v1.3, 1.4. Additionally, the Evaluation Board supports a wide variety of external I/O, allowing for the connection of additional peripheral devices. By leveraging the PCI Express interface, the Evaluation Board is able to provide a wide variety of I/O capabilities, including analog video, systems that are able to be seen and controlled by the user, and higher frequency transceiver connections for specialized applications.

The Quartus II FPGA software tools provide a full set of optimization tools and design-processing capabilities. This robust set of tools and optimizations allow for the quick and efficient development of highly complex systems. For example, designs can be partitioned into several smaller designs and then combined into one massive system that is capable of tackling complex problems. In addition, the logic design can be optimized for various goals including power consumption and performance.

In addition to the Quartus II software tools, the Evaluation Board includes a powerful System Console with advanced features to provide an easy-to-use interface for application development. The System Console allows the user to easily control the FPGAs, configure the board, test the designs on the board, and debug the designs. The System Console also provides a graphical display of the board\'s status and the design\'s execution, allowing the user to monitor and evaluate the board\'s performance.
