The MAX2178SN is a highly integrated, single-chip clock generator with an internal frequency synthesizer and PLL. It combines a low-noise and ultra-low-jitter oscillator, dual, low-noise voltage-controlled oscillators (VCOs), and a dual low-noise, fast-lock PLL. It also features two outputs: 1 fixed-frequency clock and 1 programmable frequency clock. The programmable output frequency is easily configured by programming a series of internal registers.
The MAX2178SN supports a wide range of applications including mobile and consumer devices, datacom and telecom, and medical and industrial applications. Specifically, the device can be used in a variety of applications including communications networks, digital monitors, set-top boxes, digital video recorders, computers, routers, and switches.
The MAX2178SN generates two low-jitter clock outputs and is designed to minimize system noise and interference by operating at a minimum VCO integer divide ratio. It also features a fully integrated synthesizer and PLL, enabling the user to program a wide range of outputs, from low-jitter clocks to high-precision reference clocks. The device features integrated PLLs with a maximum frequency resolution of 0.02 MHz. In addition, the device can be programmed via a serial interface that supports parallel and serial bus operations, enabling easy and flexible implementation in embedded design.
The MAX2178SN implements an internal low-jitter frequency synthesizer and PLL. Its architecture integrates each active component into the same package with a single power supply, reducing PCB complexity, size, and cost. The PLL and the synthesizer support a wide range of common frequencies from the standard crystal and from external clock sources.
The PLL is designed to provide low-noise, low-jitter, and low-power performance. The integrated PLL provides superior phase noise performance without the need for external components. The device also supports programmable output frequencies up to 3.2 GHz and Phase-Locked Loops (PLLs) with an ultra-wide range of ratios. It also features outputs with a maximum frequency accuracy of 1 ppm and minimum jitter of 0.3 UI.
The MAX2178SN also features two additional low-noise voltages-controlled oscillators (VCOs) with outputs up to 1.8 GHz in both single ended and differential mode. Each of these VCOs allows low-noise, low-jitter generation of output clock frequencies. This is due to the integration of a dedicated, fast-locking PLL architecture, providing precise PLL programming with low-noise and low-jitter outputs. In addition, the internal storage capacitors of the MAX2178SN keep the device stable over time and temperature, improving the long-term stability of the device.
The MAX2178SN is designed to provide designers with low-noise and low-jitter output. It also offers an enhanced noise rejection without the need for additional external components.
