DS2406X

The DS2406X is a dual digital addressable switch for the 1-Wire®bus system that contains two addressable switches, each with an associated sense resistor. The switches have a fault output to detect aload fault and OC (over-current) protection. This device operates at temperatures from -40°C to+85°C and is to be used in 3.3V applications.

Application field

The DS2406X is designed for various applications in which the user wants to read the status of switches. An example is an alarm system. In the alarm system, the switches sense the open/closed position of doors and windows. This device can also be used to detect the presence of objects like medical equipment, vital signs monitoring, and pump shutoff.

Working principle

The DS2406X provides two addressable switches that are controlled through the 1-Wire bus system. The switches on the DS2406X are activated when a logic HIGH is sent to the input pin. When the switch is in the OFF state, the sense resistor on the device is disconnected, which lowers the current draw. When the switch is in the ON state, the sense resistor is connected, allowing the user to detect the current draw of the load.

The DS2406X also has a fault output to detect a load fault and OC (over-current) protection. The fault output is activated when the load exceeds the over-current protection threshold. This output can be used as an interrupt output to alert the microcontroller of a potential problem.
