A DS2430A is a 1-Wire EEPROM designed for applications that require data storage in which the devices needs to be read infrequently. Working principle

The DS2430A utilizes 1–Wire communication protocol to communicate with the host controller. The 1–Wire protocol uses a single microcontroller pin combined with a passive pull-up resistors for data communication. An 8–byte page and a 64–byte page allow for rapid memory access provided the data is temporally related. Data is read or written to memory in 8–byte or 64–byte chunks.

The DS2430A also supports the Write once method where the data that is written to the EEPROM is retained perpetually even if the system power supply is turned off or interrupted. To write data, the user must provide the appropriate write cycle time and the write operation is verified. If the write is verified then the byte is locked to prevent it from being overwritten.

The DS2430A also contains several powerful security mechanisms to protect user data. It includes a write–protect window that can be used to stop any program write cycles in certain memory address ranges. This can be used to lock memory, which prevents the user from writing to the EEPROM until the password is known. There is also a Master Password Lock, which enables the user to prevent any read or write access until the Master Password is known.
