The DS3101GN+ is a high-performance, low-power clock generator with four outputs that can generate any frequency between 0.001Hz and 150MHz. It is available in a lead-free 3 x 3 mm thin quad flat non-leaded (TQFN) package or a surface-mount technology (SMT) package, both with a 5V power supply. The DS3101GN+ is capable of generating multiple clock signals of various frequencies and sizes to meet the demanding requirements of high-speed communication systems.
The primary application of the DS3101GN+ is high-speed serial communications, such as cPCI and PCI Express, as it can generate any frequency between 0.001Hz and 150MHz with excellent accuracy and precision. The four outputs of the device can be individually set to any power-of-two frequency between 0.001Hz and 150MHz, such as 1.544MHz, 31.25KHZ, 2.5MHz, 8.192MHz, etc. Additionally, it is able to adjust the clock duty cycle from 50% to 99.9%, allowing for greater versatility in its application.
The DS3101GN+ is also capable of generating differential clock signals for additional noise immunity. Each output pair may have an independent setting for frequency, duty cycle and output amplitude, so that the asynchronized nature of a cPCI bus can be complemented.
At the heart of the DS3101GN+ is a high-precision, low-power digital phase-locked loop (PLL) that uses a dual-modulus digital prescaler and a wide-range frequency synthesizer. The PLL is also equipped with automatic power control and an integrated loop filter that optimize its jitter performance. In addition, the device features a programmable clock input frequency of up to 100MHz and can support frequencies that are 25 times the reference frequency.
The DS3101GN+ may be configured with user-programmable dividers, counters and registers to provide pulse-width modulation (PWM) and pulse-density modulation (PDM) signals for applications such as frequency hopping. These output formats may also be applied to differentiate clock signals for bus signaling and for frequency hopping in communication systems.
In order to ensure timebase stability and accuracy regardless of environmental conditions, the DS3101GN+ is equipped with temperature compensation and a 2.5V reference oscillator which can be enabled or disabled. In addition, the device\'s total harmonic distortion, signal-to-noise ratio, jitter, and phase noise can be improved by using an external reference oscillator.
The DS3101GN+ is suitable for a variety of applications in clock/timing. Its output frequency, duty cycle, and amplitude flexibility, combined with its digital PLL and clock input, make it ideal for applications requiring high accuracy, jitter, and precision, such as high-speed serial communication, radio transmission, frequency hopping, and more.
