DSC6021CI2A-009W Application Field and Working Principle
The DSC6021CI2A-009W is a Pin Configurable/Selectable Oscillator that is used in a wide variety of applications. The oscillator is a 4-pin oscillator with a range of frequencies available from 2.5 kHz to 40 MHz. It provides both an analog output as well as an I2C digital interface for synchronization. The oscillator is adjustable via a range of frequency divider inputs and an on-board voltage regulator. Its low power consumption, low jitter, and wide variety of applications make the DSC6021CI2A-009W a very cost-effective oscillator for many applications.The DSC6021CI2A-009W is a 4-pin oscillator featuring an integrated circuit with a wide range of frequencies from 2.5 kHz to 40 MHz. Connections are made to the oscillator using 1.27mm pitch tin-plated pins. The oscillator has two input pins (VIN and GND), two output pins (OUT and GND) as well as a series of selectable/configurable pins (FC2/FS2, FC1/FS1, FC0/FS0, E/C&SL, FSL, FSL and CSL). These selectable/configurable pins control the oscillators output frequency, voltage and current, output waveform shape, and jitter and stability characteristics.The oscillator works by taking input signals from the pins $FC0/FS0$,$FC1/FS1$, and $FC2/FS2$ to generate and detect a reference frequency. This reference frequency is then passed through a frequency divider, which is controlled by the $E/CSL$ pin, and eventually converted into one of several frequencies as dictated by the pin $FSL$. This actual frequency is then selected via the $CSL$ and $FSL pins$. The$VIN$ and$GND$ pins provide the power needed to operate the oscillator and the$OUT$ and$GND$ pins provide the analog output.To adjust the output frequency of the oscillator, the$FSL$ and$CSL$ pins must be adjusted. The$FSL$ pin adjusts the number of frequency bands (e.g., 2.5kHz, 5kHz, 10kHz, 20kHz, 40kHz, and so on). The$CSL$ pin adjusts the output frequency to within each frequency band according to the value presented at the$SEL$ pin. The$SEL$ pin can be either a voltage-controlled voltage divider (VCD) or a resistor divider with a logic input, which can be used to control the output frequency over a broad range.In addition to providing the output frequency, the oscillator also provides two other features. The first is a power reduction mode that helps reduce power consumption during periods of low output frequency or no output frequency. This feature can be triggered by either a logic signal or the use of an external power reduction circuit. The second is a programmable jitter profile feature that is useful for reducing errors caused by output signal anomalies such as noise or temperature variations.To summarize, the DSC6021CI2A-009W is a Pin Configurable/Selectable Oscillator that features a wide range of frequencies from 2.5 kHz to 40 MHz and is adjustable via a range of frequency divider inputs and an on-board voltage regulator.
