It is an integrated BLE module for the evaluation, development, and testing of various products utilizing Bluetooth Low Energy connectivity. As a complete solution, the DVK-BTM461 includes hardware and firmware for the newest cutting-edge 4.1 Bluetooth Low Energy standards.
The DVK-BTM461 has various features as it takes advantage of its integrated Transceiver, Radio, Processor, Memory and Accessories such as USB and debug headers. The application field includes wireless sensors, streaming video, voice control, automation and home entertainment. It also works on applications requiring Bluetooth Low Energy for data transfer, low power data acquisition, and state detection. Furthermore, the integrated board enables wireless communications and applications, including Bluetooth low energy (BLE) protocol stack, security features, and APIs.
Working Principle
The DVK-BTM461 is based on the Nordic Semiconductor nRF51 series, a cutting-edge Bluetooth Low Energy microcontroller system-on-chip (SoC). The board is powered by the ARM Cortex-M0 processor and has a 128kB Flash plus 16kB RAM for additional storage. On the board, there are several components devoted to the Bluetooth Low Energy protocol, such as two BLE radio transceivers, on-board antennas, and a Bluetooth Low Energy software stack. Through the two BLE radio transceivers, the board can simultaneously act as both a Bluetooth Low Energy master and a slave.
The board is programmed via an FTDI FT232 USB-to-serial interface. This allows for debugging, downloading firmware, and also for easy programming using the Arduino IDE. Additionally, the DVK-BTM461 features an RGB LED and several GPIO pins to allow users to control and sense peripheral devices, sensors, and actuators. The DVK-BTM461 also features an NFC antenna for Near Field Communication for easy pairing and a touch sense IC for precise touch control. The board also has a power control unit to enable the control of external devices and to reduce the current consumption of the Bluetooth Low Energy application.
The board has built-in debugging functionality, which enables the integration of Nordic Semiconductor development tools such as the J-Link OB software for debugging. Through this tool, developers can monitor and control the registers of the nRF51 Series SoC. The on-board accelerometer, gyroscope, pressure sensor, and magnetometer allow developers to use it for motion sensing applications.
Conclusion
The DVK-BTM461 is a versatile and convenient tool for the development of applications requiring Bluetooth Low Energy communications. It is a complete solution for product evaluation, development, and testing, featuring hardware and firmware based on the next-gen Bluetooth Low Energy 4.1 standards. With its integrated components, peripherals, and development tools, the board is suitable for a wide range of applications from wireless sensors, streaming video, voice control, automation, and home entertainment.
