The DVK-RM191-SM is a robust RF evaluation and development kit, designed to enable designers to test, analyze, prototype, validate, and optimize RF link parameters. The DVK is supplied complete with a wide range of user-friendly graphical tools and programs to interface with other systems and host computers. It can be used for direct evaluation and development of wireless communication links, either through an intuitive graphical user interface or a powerful command line interface.
The DVK-RM191-SM includes an optional module to monitor a receiver’s dynamic range. The module consists of a “Memory Monitor”, a “Time Capture”, and a “Correlation Meter”. This allows for the user to observe dynamic behavior, which is useful for conducting threshold tests or investigating the sensitivity of a design. Additionally, the kit includes an integrated antenna connection system to connect, monitor, and detect any antenna changes for rapid prototyping.
The primary application of the DVK-RM191-SM is as a development tool for examining the signal extension of RF systems such as; Bluetooth, Zigbee, and WiMedia systems. Utilizing the integrated Memory Monitor, the kit measures the Noise Floor and the Dynamic Range of a device, while using the Time Capture function to detect distortion in time domain applications. Furthermore, the Correlation Meter can be utilized to evaluate the range of a system such as Zigbee or a WiMedia system; and the Dynamometer feature can measure the output power accurately over time.
The working principle of the DVK-RM191-SM follows a similar principle as a typical power meter. The kit creates a signal using a wide range of frequencies and measures the amplitude, phase, or impedance of the signal using a high accuracy Digitally Controlled Oscilloscope. The measurement data is then stored in the memory module and compared against a preset standard. If the signal meets the preset standard, then the correlation meter will display the results as a single numerical value, or as a range of values for more complex applications. This data can then be used to make design modifications or measure the performance of the device.
The DVK-RM191-SM is a powerful tool for quickly and accurately evaluating RF systems. It can be used to measure noise floors, dynamic ranges, distortion in the time domain applications, and range of signals. Additionally, it can help to engineer rapid prototypes while enabling design changes on the fly. This system supports both graphical user interfaces and powerful command line interfaces, making it a great choice for RF evaluation and development of wireless communication links.
