The E3S-5LE4 5M is a photoelectric sensor of the E3S series, which are industrial-grade products of Omron Corporation. Then the detector receives the reflection signal which is then converted to an electrical signal by the controller. The voltage output is then detected via the comparator circuit integrated into the controller. The controller then activates the switch output, signals, or other operations as needed.

The E3S-5LE4 photoelectric sensor features a 5mm sensing range which is typically used for detecting the presence and absence of an object. Providing an adjustable beam spot size, users can expect to detect objects within a 40mm wide detection area. It is designed for spot size adjustment, Optical Axis adjustment and Sensitivity adjustment, and it includes a No-Light beam which allows users to set up reliable detection in total darkness.

The E3S-5LE4 also features different sensing functions and outputs which include switch ON/OFF, normal light/dark, light/dark ON/OFF, dark enhance function, and line-opener/closer timer functions. It also features integrated functional safety outputs which eliminate erroneous operation of machines. The E3S-5LE4 also has function of immunity to strong light, which is very useful in production areas where strong light sources interfere with the device’s operation. With the E3S-5LE4, you can choose either red light or infrared light. Both have drawbacks; red light is easily blocked by environmental dust, fog or snow, while infrared light is easily blocked by oil or smoke.

In addition to its functions, the E3S-5LE4 has other features such as a built-in muting function which cancels the false operation caused by vibration and free-fall shock; hysteresis adjustment, a non-contact adjustment mechanism which relieves operator fatigue; and an LED indicator which displays system operating status.
