Optical Sensors are photodetectors that capture images or record changes in the light emitted or received by the surface, object or portion of the machine or said environment, depending on their type of sensor they are used to measure different metrics. The purpose of this article is to discuss the application fields and working principles of the E3S-AT86.The E3S-AT86 is a Photoelectric Sensor, which is capable of detection distances from 3m to 450m and works with a single or twin amplifier. The detection ranges vary according to its sensing range from 3m to 500m, for a single amplifier and 3m to 450m, with an optical adapter and twin amplifier.The application field of the E3S-AT86 is mainly in industrial settings for presence/absence detection, edge and break detection, linear lamp control and level/filled height measurement among others.It can be used for applications such as car body assembly lines, roll transfers, logistic machines, wood and plastic processing, oil refineries, steel plants, conveyors for food processing and packaging, paintshop or welding operations.The working principle of the E3S-AT86 is based on the comparison of light intensity levels. This photoelectric sensor consists of an emitter and a receiver, the emitter transmits a certain amount of light and the receiver receives and detects it, if the light reaches the receiver light conditions are considered as normal, if the light is not detected bright conditions are considered as abnormal.In addition, the E3S-AT86 has a programmable adjustable gain and the ability to adjust sensitivity and switching points according to different application requirements. It is a solid-state device and its output is an NPN (NON) open collector circuit. This device is also capable of polarization adjustment to align the sensing surface or to reduce ambient light interference.Furthermore, the E3S-AT86 has an illuminated display consisting of 8 dots and 3 characters for showing the output status, sensitivity settings and detection distance. It also consists of a signal trim setting and output delay setting.In conclusion, the E3S-AT86 is an optical sensor widely used in industrial applications, it enables presence/absence detection, edge and break detection, linear lamp control and level/filled-height measurement. Additionally, it has a programmable adjustable gain, sensitivity adjustment and switching points. Its illuminated display and output delay makes it a reliable and ideal device for industrial settings.
