Working Principle

The EAST1608WA1 LED indication is a discrete LED that utilizes a simple forward-bias diode junction in order to achieve the creation of the emitted light. It has a power transistor attached to the anode of the LED, which increases the current that passes through the LED and thus, increases the brightness of the LED. In addition to this, the LED also utilizes a reverse-bias diode junction, which serves to protect the LED from damage due to over-currents.

When the LED is powered on, its initial current will rise rapidly until the transistor starts to conduct. Once the transistor is conducting, the current rises exponentially until it reaches its maximum value, at which point it begins to decrease. As the power source is removed, the current flows in the opposite direction to the transistor and the LED’s current decreases rapidly until the power source is completely removed and the LED is off.
