Film capacitors are types of capacitors that are made mostly of film dielectrics. The film used as a dielectric can be a relatively inexpensive fabric of plastics, or a more expensive, highly purified film. For example, ECH-U1H331JX5 is a film capacitor featuring air-tight construction, temperature-compensating, and long-term stability.
Film capacitors are often chosen when low leakage, long term stability and low levels of inductance are desired characteristics. When a voltage is applied to these plates, an electric field is generated between the two plates. As the magnitude of the applied voltage and the distance between the plates are increased, the electric field will increase accordingly. This increases the capacitance and the total charge stored by the capacitor.
Film capacitors exhibit several advantages over competitors, primarily their ability to tolerate high operating temperatures, typically up to 155 degrees Celsius in some cases, while providing excellent insulation and low parasitic components such as inductance and resistance. Additionally, film capacitors are far less prone to failure due to environmental conditions and acts of aging, so they are preferred for use in reliable and long-term applications. Compared to competing capacitors, film capacitors are more expensive, though the cost is eventually offset by their superior performance. Due to the excellent characteristics of these capacitors, ECH-U1H331JX5 are found in many different types of equipment, including power supplies, computer systems, audio equipment, industrial machinery, and medical devices.
