Film Capacitors
Film capacitors, also known as plastic film capacitors, are constructed with plastic films as dielectric and metalized films as electrodes. They consist of flexible plastic films, such as polyethylene terephthalate (PET), polyphenylene sulfide (PPS), polystyrol-terephthalate (PEN) or polycarbonate (PC). The electric charge on the two electrodes of the film capacitor is stored on the two thin films deposited on the flexible plastic film. These electrodes that can be made from either aluminum or zinc-doped polyethylene terephthalate (PET) are ultrasonically welded to a metal conductive strip or lead wire.

The working principle behind ECQ-B1223JF film capacitors is relatively simple. When a voltage is applied across the electrodes, the charges distribute themselves over the front and back surfaces of the metalized films according to the magnitude of the applied voltage.
During the operation of the film capacitor, the electric field between the two metalized strips of the capacitor attracts free electrons. This creates a charge accumulation between the electrodes, producing an electric field that opposes the applied voltage. The accumulated electric charge, or leakage current, is affected by the thickness of the insulating layer between the two plates, the capacitance of the capacitor, and the frequency of the applied voltage.
