ECS-100AX-010 is an oscillator which has a wide range of applications in the industry. It is mainly used in communications, aerospace, medical and automotive industries. It utilizes high performance temperature stability and precise frequency stability, and is limited to 25MHz to 120MHz output frequency range. The ECS-100AX-010 utilizes a quartz crystal, a quartz crystal resonator or a small SMD ceramic capacitor as the frequency determining element. The quartz crystal oscillator is produced as a closed loop crystal oscillator, while the other two are open loop systems.

The main working principle of the ECS-100AX-010 is the Piezoelectric Effect. Piezoelectricity is the ability of certain materials, crystal mainly, to generate a voltage when a mechanical stress is applied to it. The quartz crystal resonator utilizes an induced voltage to maintain the resonant frequency. When the crystal is subjected to an electric field, it will expand and contract in an alternating current. When this oscillation occurs, it will generate an output frequency which is proportional to the input voltage, and dependent on the crystal.

In order to achieve fantastic performance, the ECS-100AX-010 uses a low impedance wiring scheme for the connection of the crystal elements. This ensures that the crystals are “held” at their resonance frequency as precisely as possible. The oscillator also features an on-board temperature sensor and control circuitry which helps to maintain optimal operating temperature of the crystal. The oscillator’s control circuit also offers Triple CAP Trim to trim the frequency of the oscillator to the desired value and make sure the frequency stability is top-notch.

The output of the ECS-100AX-010 is tailored to match the application. It can be harmonically or non harmonic, symmetrical of asymmetrical. The output signal can be clipped or smoothed to improve phase noise and filter out unwanted harmonics. Also, it can be delivered as an open drain signal, open collector signal, Sink or Source signals depending on the application.
