A quartz crystal is cut in the shape of a tuning fork, consisting of two opposite-facing electrodes. When the crystal is subjected to an electrical current, mechanical stress will cause the crystal to vibrate at its resonant frequency. This frequency determines the time each of the oscillator’s cycles takes, and thus the device’s output frequency.The output frequency of the ECS-40-20-5PXDU-TR is controlled by a temperature-compensated crystal oscillator circuit. An integrated circuit is used to generate a clock pulse when the voltage across the oscillator varies.
