ECS-60-32-4X application field and working principle
Electrically-controlled (EC) crystals belong to the family of precision frequency control components. An EC crystal is a device that is composed of a quartz crystal resonator, a drive IC and external passive components. The EC crystal can be tuned over a wide range of frequencies through an electrical control signal up to 8kHz/V. The ECS-60-32-4X configured crystal is a premium quality, hermetically sealed, ultra-small package quartz crystal device that is designed to operate over the frequency range of 40.000MHz + 5.000MHz. It is available in the industry-standard 7.5mm x 5.0mm x 2.5mm package, and features a low power consumption of 0.3mA at Sine Wave output. The ECS-60-32-4X also offers high frequency stabilization and highly accurate frequency control with excellent phase noise performance.

Working Principle
The ECS-60-32-4X crystal works based on two basic principles: the piezoelectric effect, and the hysteresis effect. The piezoelectric effect occurs when an electric field is applied to a vibrating crystal, and the force produced is proportional to the frequency of the applied electric field. The hysteresis effect occurs when a,deeper or different vibration pattern is produced by an opposite polarity of an applied electrical field, which stabilizes the crystal. This allows for highly precise and accurate frequency control.
Furthermore, because of the ECS-60-32-4X configuration design, the crystal is able to synchronize to external reference signals, providing a more stable working frequency and reducing the power consumption.
