Film capacitors, with organic film as dielectric, are divided into Metallized film capacitors and Polypropylene film capacitors according to the material of surface electrode. ECW-F2474HAB, as a metallized film capacitor, is widely used in various applications.

Applications

With its series of Tolerance, Operational Temperature and Rated Voltage from ±5% @105℃ to ±1% @ 85℃, 4V to 800V, ECW-F2474HAB is most suitable for applications of filtering, rectification, and data processing, for its Miniature Package, small size, and excellent environmental stability. As one of the most advantage being self-healing which has no premature failure with a long operational life time, ECW-F2474HAB is primarily used in the fields of industrial equipments, home market appliance industry, LED lighting, capacitor-input power supply, and the flash memory circuit protection.

Working Principle of Metallized Film Capacitor

Metallized film capacitors are constructed by winding film layers between conducting elements such as aluminum or copper. The film material is usually polyester, polypropylene, polystyrene, polycarbonate, or polyphenylene sulfide. The thickness of the film lies in the level of nanometers (nm), which can significantly reduce the volume of the capacitor. This allows high volumetric efficiency as the volume is minimized in comparison to non-film capacitors.

The active terminal electrodes of metallized film capacitors are made of metals with high electrical conductivity, usually aluminum or copper. The layers of these conductive metal films are typically made by vapor deposition or metal spraying on the internal surfaces of the dielectric film. These metal films are even thinner than the film layers, as both of the electrodes should remain close to each other to generate a strong electric field. The distance between these electrodes in metallized film capacitors is usually 0.2–1.0 μm.

ECW-F2474HAB takes the technology of metal spraying to form a conductor, which greatly decreases the thickness of its dielectric cavity thus increases the field strength, ensuring long life time and stable performance after passing rigorous testing.
