Film capacitors, also known as film dielectric capacitors, polyester capacitors or plastic film capacitors, are electrical components which use a film as a dielectric. The ECW-FE2J105K film capacitor is a polyester-based type which is a long-life, low-profile, high-frequency, polyester film capacitor with an epoxy resin impregnation.

Working Principle

The ECW-FE2J105K film capacitors are based on a polyester film dielectric and an epoxy resin impregnation for moisture-proofing. The layered construction is designed to minimize changes to the capacitor due to temperature and humidity, thus ensuring a long life. The working principle is the same as other types of capacitors: the capacitor is able to store energy in the form of an electrical field between two conducting plates. The amount of energy stored depends on the amount of charge (Q) on each plate and the capacitance (C) of the capacitor.

Capacitance

The exact value of the capacitance of ECW-FE2J105K film capacitors depends on the thickness and type of film used, and the size of the area of overlap between the two conductive plates.
