Optical sensors are sensing devices specially designed to detect the presence or absence of its target object. Photointerrupters are one type of such sensors that work by sensing whether a beam of light is passed between a transmitter and receiver. When the beam is blocked or interrupted, the sensor detects a change in state, sends a signal to the controller and stops working. EE-SX1055 is one type of photointerrupters in the slot type category, and is equipped with transistor output. Below, we outline the application field and working principles of this device.
Application Field
EE-SX1055 is an economical and reliable slot type photointerrupter that is suitable for a wide array of applications. Firstly, it is used in motor control applications, whereby it monitors the spins or rotations of a motor and sends a signal to the controller to ensure the motors operate as desired. Secondly, it has been widely used for measuring and controlling the speed of conveyor belts. The sensor can detect the changes of the belt speed, and then send a signal to the controller, therefore controlling the speed of the belt. Due to its accurate and reliable performance, EE-SX1055 also has many other various applications, such as machine automation, position detecting, and material flow monitoring.
Working Principle
The EE-SX1055 slot type photointerrupter consists of an LED light source and a phototransistor light receptor. With the LED facing the phototransistor, both are positioned in a straight line. Light is emitted when the device is activated and a continuous beam is produced between the LED and the receptor. When no object passes by the beam, the receptor continues to sense its presence and sends the signal to the controller. However, when an object passes by and interrupts the beam, the receptor no longer senses the light and the device sends a signal of interruption to the controller.
To achieve a more robust signal, EE-SX1055 is also equipped with a built-in amplification circuit, which enables the sensor to detect even faint light. This means that the device can remain stable even in ample light-sensing conditions, and is also resistant to electro-magnetic noise. In addition, the built-in transistor output offers reliable and robust switching life-span that can reach up to 100,000 cycles.
The EE-SX1055 slot type photointerrupter is an ideal sensing device for a wide variety of applications as it is economical, sensitive and reliable. With its accurate detection performance and adjustable sensitivity, it is a widely used photointerrupter thanks to its low cost and ease of application.
