Aluminum - Polymer Capacitors

Aluminum-polymer capacitors are a type of capacitor that combines the advantages of aluminum electrolytic capacitors with those of solid organic polymers capacitors. Unlike conventional electrolytic capacitors, aluminum-polymer capacitors are leak-proof and can handle high ripple currents. Moreover, they are reliable in surge current, self-healable, and have high temperature stability, making them ideal for applications requiring high capacitor reliability.

EEH-ZA1J560P Application Field and Working Principle

The EEH-ZA1J560P is an aluminum-polymer capacitor manufactured by Nichicon. It is suitable for high power and large ripple current applications such as power supplies, voltage compensators and motor control. Its capacitance is 560μF and its rated voltage is 35V.

The operational principle of the EEH-ZA1J560P is based on the same physics principles as other capacitors, such as the electrostatic interaction between two conductive plates and the dielectric material. The capacitor is constructed with two conducting surfaces, or electrodes, that are separated by a thin film of an electrically insulating material called the dielectric. When a voltage is applied across the capacitor, the dielectric material is polarized, allowing Charge Carriers (electrons) to move between the electrodes, storing electrical energy. Upon removal of the voltage, the capacitor retains its charge. This phenomenon is known as capacitance.

The EEH-ZA1J560P has an aluminum anode and a conductive plastic film such as PEN or PET as dielectric material. The conductive plastic film is thinner than the paper used in conventional electrolytic capacitors and the thinness of the film increases the capacitance. Additionally, this type of capacitor has glass fibre woven into the film, which prevents the capacitor from suffering from mechanical shocks and from corrosion, thus extending its lifespan.

The EEH-ZA1J560P is also characterized by its high energy density, low ESR (Equivalent Series Resistance), high temperature stability, and low inherent loss. All these features make the EEH-ZA1J560P ideal for a wide range of applications where reliability, high power performance and long service life are desired.

Advantages of Aluminum-polymer capacitors

Aluminum-polymer capacitors have several advantages over conventional aluminum electrolytic capacitors. They have higher ripple current capacity and larger capacitance in a given volume, they are also low ESR, have increased temperature stability and last longer than other capacitors. Additionally, they are not prone to leakage, making them suitable for high-temperature and harsh environments, and are self-healing, resulting in no catastrophic failures.

The EEH-ZA1J560P, for example, is ideal for applications such as power supplies, voltage compensators and motor control which require high ripple currents, high temperature stability and reliability. Its high capacitance, low ESR and low inherent loss ensure a stable output voltage and current.

Conclusion

Aluminum-polymer capacitors offer several advantages over conventional aluminum electrolytic capacitors, including increased ripple current capacity, larger capacitance in a given volume and increased temperature stability. The EEH-ZA1J560P, in particular, is suitable for applications requiring high capacitor reliability and is ideal for power supplies, voltage compensators and motor control.
