The electrolyte between the anode and cathode serves as the dielectric material and allows charge to be stored.When a voltage is applied across the capacitor, the aluminum and polymer layers form an electric dipole in which electrons and ions flow. The electrons travel over the polymer layer, and the ions travel through the aluminum layer. This action creates an electric field around the electrodes, which produces the charge stored by the capacitor.
