LS5326IR Application Field and Working PrinciplePMIC - Voltage Regulators - Special PurposeThe LS5326IR is a high-performance integrated DC/DC converter, and is suited for a variety of power supply requirements in a wide range of applications. Examples include low-power industrial, medical, aerospace and defense markets, as well as commercial applications.This integrated switch-mode regulator IC can provide a high-effici-ency, compact solu-tion to meet the demand for low-noise, high-voltage DC/DC converters. By combining a high-frequency control topology with wide input voltage range and a variety of output current levels, this device offers a single-chip solution that significantly simplifies system design and lowers cost.The LS5326IR has two modes of operation, fixed- or relocking-voltage step-down with automatic ON/OFF control, and standby/run for adjustable current-limit. The ON/OFF control mode provides a logic enable input for power sequencing applications, and the run/standby mode helps lower start-up cost for light-load applications.The feature of this device are quite varied depending on the system requirements. Nevertheless, the key benefits of this device are the ability to provide adjustable step-down voltage output and automatic ON/OFF or run/standby control of the output in a very small, highly efficient, high-frequency solution.1. FeaturesThe LS5326IR has high switching frequency of 2.5MHz which helps to maintain high efficiency and to reduce board area and external components; it is capable of operating with input voltage range from 4.5V to 18V; it also has adjustable output voltage range from 0.6V to VIN; output current of up to 350mA; operating temperature range of -40°C to +150°C; enable is logic selectable between ON/OFF or run/standby; ON/OFF active high, independent enable; under-voltage lockout with UVLO threshold voltage selectable; internal soft-start circuit; over-current protection; high-voltage MOSFET; high-efficiency power stage; and it is available in different package styles.2. Applications The LS5326IR can be used in many applications, such as commercial and industrial applications, consumer electronics, medical equipment, audio amplifiers and battery-powered devices. It is a perfect choice for high quality customer-oriented designs with its small package, high efficiency and high temperature operation features.3. Working PrincipleThe LS5326IR DC/DC converter IC employs a high frequency-switched mode topology which uses a pair of external NMOS and NPN transistors as the main switch. This topology is not only efficient but also quite compact, especially due to its high switching frequency.The IC integrates all the necessary functions for a complete power supply, such as the high-voltage PNP MOSFET for protection, current-limit sensing, under-voltage lockout, thermal shutdown control and soft-start circuit. The IC\'s high-voltage MOSFET is designed to protect the input voltage pin during abnormal conditions.To control the output voltage and current, the LS5326IR uses a programmable pulse-width modulation (PWM) control method. The PWM control maintains the output voltage and current by adjusting the duty cycle, which is set by a reference voltage. This reference voltage is then compared to an internal feedback voltage. The output voltage is determined by the internal feedback voltage, while the maximum output current is adjusted by the internal current limit sensing circuitry.The output voltage range is set by adjusting the reference voltage, while the duty cycle range is adjusted by the external resistor connected to the VREF pin.
