Inductors are devices that store electrical energy as an electromagnetic field. Fixed Inductors are a type of inductors that are composed of an insulated coil wound on a ferromagnetic core, with or without a chemical treatment to increase their performance. They are essential components in many electronic circuits, providing inherent high frequency stability and noise suppression that enable the circuits to function in a more efficient and reliable manner.

The ELC-18B182L Inductor is one of the fixed type inductors, characterized by low DCR and high current ratings. It is a radial-lead inductor, and has a maximum height of 4.25mm. ELC-18B182L working principle

Inductors are built on the simple principle of electrical energy storage. Its core stores the electrical energy in a magnetic field and releases it when needed. When current flows through a coil of wire, it produces a magnetic field around the coil. The amount of magnetic field depends on both the strength of the current and the number of turns of wire in the coil (coil inductance).

As the field intensity increases, it reaches a point where it is unable to contain the rising current. At this moment, the stored energy is released in the form of an opposing current, thus assuring the current does not reach an excessive threshold. The inductor is therefore a very effective device for controlling and regulating both current and voltage in an electric circuit.
