Common mode chokes are relatively simple electrical components used to reduce the noise level in the power supply of an system. The ELF-18D430is a common mode choke designed to drastically reduce common mode noise from the power supply while allowing the desired signals to pass through.

The ELF-18D430 is especially suitable for applications in which the power supply provides high-frequency switching signals with strong errant electric fields, such as motor control, HDMI/DVI, etc. The component has a high breakdown voltage and allows for a wide operating temperature range, making it ideal for automotive, medical, and other applications.

The working principle of the ELF-18D430 is based on EMI suppression using a conventional common mode choke. When RF signals pass through the windings, an induced current with the same phase is created on each of the windings. The differential and common mode noise on the other side of the choke is canceled out which, in turn, helps to reduce the EMI noise significantly.

The ELF-18D430 is equipped with two windings which act as an inductor and capacitor. The inductor is used to store electromagnetic energy and helps to block high-frequency signals while the capacitor is used to block the DC component of the signal. This combined effect leads to a very clear signal compared to the original one.

The ELF-18D430 provides excellent protection against common mode EMI noise. It can be used in scenarios where there is a risk of high-frequency noise in the power supply due to the high-speed switching of motor control systems, HDMI/DVI signals, and other applications. The choke has a wide operating temperature range and high breakdown voltage, making it ideal for automotive, medical, and other applications. The windings also act as an inductor and capacitor, helping to block high-frequency signals while the capacitor blocks the DC component of the signal.
