Common Mode Chokes are electrical devices that employ the inductive principle to reduce and reject common-mode noise in a broadband of frequencies. Specifically, a Common Mode Choke, like the ELF-18D602, provides a high impedance path to common-mode noise, while maintaining a low impedance path to power and signal lines. The ELF-18D602 is an excellent choice for filtering of common-mode interference in applications such as power lines, communications systems, and automobiles.
In power line applications, the ELF-18D602 Common Mode Chokes can be used to reduce conducted emissions while providing extremely low voltage losses for both AC and DC power lines. In addition to reducing noise emissions, the ELF-18D602 also helps eliminate common-mode induced current flows that can degrade power carrying capacity. In communications systems, the ELF-18D602 chokes are designed to reduce crosstalk and interference from signals transmitted on the same line, as well as reduce harmonic distortion. In automotive applications, these devices are often used for EMI suppression, as they provide an effective barrier against electromagnetic interference.
The ELF-18D602 Common Mode Choke utilizes high impedance winding characteristics to trap and reduce common mode noise. High impedance winding characteristics allow the device to reject noise and interference while passing relatively low levels of power and current. This is accomplished through inductive reactance, which occurs when an AC signal is applied to an inductive material such as a coil. The ELF-18D602 utilizes two windings wound around each other which creates two magnetic fields, or modes, which oppose each other. These opposing fields reject electromagnetic interference (EMI) that enters one winding, while allowing power and signal frequencies to pass through both windings.
The ELF-18D602 Common Mode Choke provides an excellent solution for a variety of filtering and signal integrity problems. By maintaining a high impedance path to common-mode noise, while providing a low impedance path to power and signal lines, the ELF-18D602 helps to reduce and reject common-mode noise in a variety of frequency bands. In addition, the ELF-18D602 Common Mode Choke is designed to offer superior performance while still meeting the most stringent standards for common-mode suppression.
