Fixed Inductors
A fixed inductor is an inductor that is manufactured to have a specific inductance value. A fixed inductor does not change its inductance. The ELJ-FB2R7KF is a fixed axial-type inductor and is designed to be dimensionally small in a wide variety of DC power line filtering applications.
Application Field
The ELJ-FB2R7KF is a low-profile axial-type inductor. It is suitable for use in DC power line filtering of equipment with low to mid-frequency switching power transistors, such as audio-video and other electronics. It is also used in switching power supplies, computer components, and other low-frequency DC power line filtering applications. The ELJ-FB2R7KF offers flexibility in the choice between two mounting types for efficient PC board mounting.
Working Principle
An inductor works on the principle of electromagnetic induction. A fixed inductor is composed of a coil of wire wound around a metallic core. When electric current is passed through the inductor, an electromagnetic field is formed. This field increases the inductance of the inductor, thus storing energy. When the applied current is suddenly cut off, the magnetic field, in turn, induces a counter voltage, or current, in the inductor. This voltage, or current, continues until the field or current dissipates. Despite whether the load impedance changes, the inductance of a fixed inductor remains constant.
The ELJ-FB2R7KF has a mean inductance of 2.7µH. This allows for smoother operation, maximized power supply efficiency, and improved noise immunity. It is rated up to 10 amperes and 4.2 volts at 0.192 ohm. The 2525 package size and low profile provide for better heat dissipation than comparable fixed inductors. It features a 2-terminal construction for connection from the top and bottom sides of the PCB, and is RoHS compliant.
