Electroless Nickel (ELM) 1-6MM technology has been around since the late 70’s and is still a niche technology in the LED industry. ELM is a two component process consisting of Nickel and Molybdenum and is used in a variety of industries such as in appliance, automotive, nuclear and aerospace for heat sinks, electrical insulation, metallization and plating. ELM is well suited for applications such as LEDs and other component housings and spacers where there is a requirement for extreme precision, durability and tight tolerances.

ELM is used as a molding and filling process of LED components and works by depositing electroless Nickel as a binder which fills any voids or gaps between LED components, when the Nickel is heated it creates a solid bond between the components which securely seals them together. This process enabled LED components to be safely encapsulated within the Nickel, which creates a more reliable and longer lasting connection. ELM processes are used today to deposit nickel in virtually any size and shape component down to a few microns in thickness.

When ELM is used in LED components, it creates a strong and rigid bond between the components which can withstand extreme temperature and other hazards.
