The EPM7512AEQC208-10 is a member of the Complex Programmable Logic Devices, commonly known as CPLDs, family and is placed in the low-voltage range of programmable interconnect devices.  It is often used in embedded computing applications due to its low power consumption, wide range of device support, and efficient architecture when compared to numerous other CPLD devices.

The EPM7512AEQC208-10 device was designed by Altera Corporation, a leading supplier of programmable logic devices.  The application field of the device includes projects such as consumer electronics, automotive system, industrial control, and telecommunications systems.  Additionally, it can be used in applications that require high port count and powerful low-power consumer electronics or in cases where interconnect complexity must be maximized without consuming excessive power, such as applications that involve multiple buses and many automated switching/routing functions.

The working principle of the EPM7512AEQC208-10 is based on the MAX 7000 family of CPLDs, which are composed of Altera’s patented programmable logic blocks (PLBs).  The CPLD devices are designed to provide enhanced capabilities in terms of flexibiltiy, performance, scalability, ease of programmability and low power consumption.  The architecture of the device divides the IC into four functional blocks; the input block, output block, logic block, and the control block.

The input block is made up of three sections.  The first section, the Input Logic Block (ILB), is used to scan the inputs to determine their values.  The second section, the Futurizer circuit, is used to capture the rapidly changing data signals.  The last section, the Input Matching circuits, provide constant propagation delays with changes in the input logic levels. 

The output blocks provide the function of output data conditioning and the transmission of information to the logic block.  The logic block is the core of the CPLD and it consists of a combination of logic cells, flip-flops and multiplexers, which provide the basic logic operations.  The control block is responsible for the generation of the necessary clocks for the operation of the device.  Additionally, this block is also responsible for programmable hardware elements, such as the configuration of the devices’ internal timing elements, output logic levels and devices’ pin configuration.

The EPM7512AEQC208-10 CPLD is designed to outperform many of its counterparts.  It features architecture with an increased pin count, increased logic cell count, and a wider data/cloud throughput.  The device also has built-in power management capabilities, improved programmability and portability, and enhanced power efficiency through its low-power design architecture.  With its efficient architecture, the device can meet the diverse requirements of embedded computing applications.
